CLARKS SUMMIT — John P. Phillips, 40, of Clarks Summit, died Friday afternoon, June 27, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. His widow is the former Cindy A. Moylan, whom he married in 2002.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of Neil Phillips, Newton Township, and the late Ruth Isabelle Seymour Phillips. Prior to his illness he was a driver for the Ryder Corporation and was previously an independent driver, leasing Keller Trucking.
John was a member of the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church. He was a 1993 graduate of Abington Heights High School where he played football and held a PIAA state title for power lifting. John was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Tyneil Phillips-Gable; two aunts, Evelyn Kinney and Joann Schimelfenig; and two uncles, Lionel and Richard Seymour.
Also surviving are his daughter, Moira Ruth Phillips, Clarks Summit; a brother, Christopher Phillips, Richmond, Virginia; three aunts, Bonnie Bendict, Barbara Tompkins and Naomi Mascaro; two uncles, Mark Phillips and George Seymour; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held from the Clarks Green Assembly of God Church, 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. Glenn White, pastor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
