PRINGLE — Mary M. (Peggy) Schutz, of Pringle, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at Mercy Center, Dallas, where she had been a resident for a year-and-a-half.

She was the daughter of the late Bridget McCabe Thornton (an immigrant of County Cavan, Ireland) and the late James Thornton (an immigrant of County Mayo, Ireland), of Olyphant. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Olyphant, in 1951 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton.

She was a housewife, mother and private duty nurse. She was a proud member of the Penn State Master Gardeners. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was especially proud of her Irish heritage.

Mary is preceded in death by husband, Gerard; and brothers, James and Anthony Thornton.

She is survived by daughter, Peggy Mullin and her husband, Neil, of Hanover Township; son, Gerard A. Schutz and his wife, Lisa, of Shavertown; daughter, Ellen Welch and her husband, Corey, of Larksville; son, Michael A. Schutz and his wife, Andrea, of Exeter; daughter, Mary Christine Schutz-Gidula, of Kingston; son, John J. Schutz, of Elizabethtown; son, Eric M. Schutz and Kate Conologue, of Swoyersville; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, Roseanne Kern and husband, Tom, Ellen McAndrew, Teresa Krushinski, Maureen Mellow and husband, Jim, and Trisha Thornton.

Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be private and at the convenience at the family.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the Mauriello family for their continuous kindness of bouquets for Mom. The family would also like to thank the staff and administration at Mercy Center who showed Mary love, care, patience and courteousness during her stay there.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Candy's Place.
