CLARKS SUMMIT — Virginia (Gairens) Thompson, 97, of Clarks Summit, died Monday evening, April 25, 2016, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Roy Thompson, who died in 2002.
Born in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ann (Murphy) Gairens. She was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and was co-owner, along with her husband, of Thompson Farms. She was also a member and vice president of the farmer's co-op market. Virginia was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Snows Church and more recently the Church of St. Benedict.
Virginia loved to cook and bake, especially her Welsh cookies.
The family would like to thank Celesta Trivelpiece and Velma Miller for the wonderful care they gave to Virginia.
Surviving are a son, John Roy Thompson and his wife, Rosemary, Newton; two daughters, Suzanne Drumsta, Newton, and Diane DeCicco, Ransom; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rex Thompson; a great-great-grandson, Gabriel; two brothers, Frank and Robert Gairens; three sisters, Martha Boyd, Ann Wheeler and Sally Fleming and two sons-in-law, Thomas Drumsta and William DeCicco.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held from the Church of St. Benedict, Newton Ransom Boulevard, with services by Msgr. Joseph Quinn, pastor. Interment in Newton Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit PA 18411.
