N. EASTON, Mass. — Walter Charles Cron, 85, a resident of North Easton, Mass., a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at his home peacefully.

Walter was born in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 1, 1933. He was the son of the late Walter Andrew Cron and Ethel Gardner Cron. He was a 1951 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre and a 1956 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Walter also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Walter was married to the late Beverly H. Cron on June 28, 1958. He spent most of his career working for Virginia Chemicals, which was eventually acquired by Hoechst Celanese, from where he eventually retired.

Walter loved spending time with his adoring family. He was a member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting, reading, crossword puzzles and gardening, a hobby he shared with his late wife.

He is survived by three children: Rhett W. Cron, of Larkspur, Calif., Teryl C. Dunne and her husband, Kevin Dunne, of Norton, Mass., and Gregg G. Cron, of Kennesaw, Ga. He had six grandchildren: Jacqueline Dunne, Christina Dunne, Zachary Dunne, Cassidy Cron, McKenzie Cron and Courtney Cron. Walter was preceded in death by his sister, Lois C. Weed.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Mansfield, MA 02048. Military honors will follow at the conclusion of services in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.

Visiting hours will be held prior to the services from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be sent to the Reformed Church of Metuchen, 150 Lake Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840.
