Rufus S. Nichols

SCOTT TWP. — Rufus S. Nichols, Scott Township, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3, 2014, at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. His wife is the former Jacalin J. Sutton; the couple celebrated their 54th anniversary on July 30, 2014.

Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Rufus and Mildred Stanton Nichols. He was a lifelong resident of Scott Township, where he owned and operated his own bus company for 30 years, as well as working for William W. Scranton and family for approximately 40 years.

Rufus was the caretaker of Miller Cemetery in Scott Township and involved with the Boy Scout Troop, Pack 265, for over 16 years.

Rufus worked hard his whole life, had many friends and spent each morning at the Sunrise Cafe in Clarks Summit for breakfast. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Also surviving are three sons, Rusty J. and his wife, Gianine, Lenoxville; Eric S. and his wife, Janette, Norman, Okla.; and Rufus B. and his wife, Joyce, Scott Township; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Amy Raser. Interment will follow in Miller Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
