James David Dickson

James David Dickson, 76, Edwardsville, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, in the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

He was born Dec. 21, 1936 in Edwardsville, a son of the late James Dickson and Edna J. Baul Dickson. He was a graduate of Larksville High School, class of 1955. He was employed by Davis Chevrolet Co., Larksville, as well as Shapiro and Charles Bridal Salon as a shipping clerk and driver.

Between 1960 and 1967, he entered the Pennsylvania National Guard and took basic training at Fort Knox. In 1975, he opened a restaurant with his mother in Plymouth Township. He was later appointed as a full-time recruiter and became a career counselor. He worked full time in the Pennsylvania National Guard Center doing enlistments, discharges, payroll and bonuses.

During the 27 years spent in the National Army Guard of Pennsylvania, he received many awards, commendations and medals, both state and federal, for his work. He was decorated with the Army/National Guard Recruiter's Badge. He also held a life membership of the 109th Artillery Historical and War Museum and was a graduate of the Reserve Component Recruiting School.

Surviving are aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Edwards and Russin Funeral Home, 717 Main St., Edwardsville, with the Rev. Louis Falcone, pastor of Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church, Edwardsville, officiating. Interment with military honors accorded will follow in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover Green, Hanover Township. Family and friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
