Rita "Jo" Bernard
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Rita "Jo" Bernard, 71, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Michael Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Cow Island, Louisiana will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Dana Clement and Connie Theriot. Giftbearers will be Emily Drennan and Mia Drennan.
Survivors include her daughter, Melonie Patin Drennan; one son, Todd A. Patin, Sr. and his wife, Lisa; one brother, David J. Guilbeau, Jr.; four grandchildren, Todd Patin, Jr., Ty Patin, Emily Drennan and Mia Drennan.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Irvin J. Bernard; and her parents, David J. and Rita Dugas Guilbeau.
A native of Carencro and resident of Lafayette her entire life, Rita "Jo" Bernard was an excellent florist and later became floral manager at Albertsons before her retirement. She loved oil painting, playing at the casino, playing cards with her friends and loved talking on the phone because she worried about others so much. "Jo" was very active in her grandchildren's lives. Rita "Jo" Bernard was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Todd Patin, Jr., Ty Patin, Will Sonnier, Donald Theriot, Ted Cormier and George Clement.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
