Dorothy Jean Emley
LAFAYETTE - Dorothy Jean Emley, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Cornerstone Village South in Lafayette, Louisiana surrounded by her family. She was born on April 10, 1924 in San Pedro, California and lived in California all of her life, until her son, Dennis Brooks, brought her to Louisiana in May to live until her passing. Dennis, his family, as well as many friends and medical providers helped support Dorothy through her battle with dementia.
The family wishes to express it's sincere gratitude to the many medical caregivers, family and friends who were an intricate part of Dorothy's life and care. To Hospice of Acadiana, your compassion and assistance during this difficult time has been a God send and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To the countless others who tried to make my mom better, your kindness and enduring care will always be deeply appreciated. To Agnes Kilchrist and Marina Landry, her sitters, who helped in this transition in mid May 2013, thank you for the gentle care and grace you've shown my mother. God sent you to us as we began this journey, and we want you to know how thankful we are, as you remained at her side through her final days.
Dorothy Jean Emley leaves a son, Dennis Brooks and his wife, Sue (Daigle) Brooks; two grandchildren, Dawn Hecker of Canoga Park, CA and Garret Brooks and his wife, Kristin (Brown) Brooks of Breaux Bridge, LA; three great grandchildren, Eva Brooks, Ethan Brooks, and Brayden Brooks; one sister, Janie Morrow; one nephew, Chris Morrow and his wife and daughter; and one niece, Marji Morrow and her son all of Los Angeles, CA.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Denise Brooks and Jeanne Brooks; and her parents, Ralph Rockwell and Lorna Rockwell-Johnson; one brother, Rocky Rockwell and her husband, Joe Emley.
