Phillips, Julia Jordan  
Julia Jordan Phillips LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick's Catholic Church for Julia Jordan Phillips, 94, who passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center on December 25, 2014. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Momma Tee, as she was affectionately called, entered this world on June 11, 1920. She was a woman of strong faith who brought love, intelligence, wisdom and her very special brand of humor to all who knew her. She worked as a personal housekeeper and later in the housekeeping department at Acadiana Mental Health where she retired. Julia was devoted to her family and she and her husband Arthur raised their five children. Throughout her life, Julia worked to improve herself and all those around her. Although she was deprived of a formal education as a child because of poverty, Momma Tee valued education and learning. She is survived by two daughters, Bernice (Sherrod Lee) Brooks of San Diego, CA and Ida (James) Connor of Clinton, MD; two sons, Oscar Phillips, Wayne Kenneth (Geneva) Phillips of Lafayette, LA; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Phillips of Lafayette, LA; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lilly Fils and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Phillips; son, Robert "Bobby" Phillips; her parents, Elnora and Arthur Jordan; brother, Oscar Jordan and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jordan. The family gives special thanks to Doctor Milton Jolivette; her son, Oscar; caregivers, Mrs. Rita Sparrow, Ms. Lynette Smith, Ms. Adelia Sparrow; and the LGMC ICU and Eighth Floor's West Tower staff. Visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Raymond Joseph Roy LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014, at 10:30 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Raymond Joseph Roy, age 87, who died on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Maurice. Reverend Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. His granddaughter, Rachel Mathias, vocalist, accompanied by Stephanie Hoffpauir, organist, will sing for the services, "Ave Maria," "Here I am Lord," "Prayer of St. Francis," and "On Eagles' Wings." His granddaughter, Kate Roy, flautist, will perform "Amazing Grace." The eulogy will be delivered by his daughter, Terry Roy. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved three daughters, Mary Ellen Roy of New Orleans, Tricia Roy Mathias and her husband, Dennis of Jackson, MS, and Terry Kay Roy and her husband, Brent of Lafayette; two sisters, Barbara Roy Barrows, and her husband, Timothy and Felice Drouin; seven grandchildren, Rachel Mathias, Madeleine Roy, Victoria Mathias, David Harkins, Jacob Roy, Kate Roy and Rose Roy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian Trahan Roy; his parents, Benton Joseph and Olga Rose Drouin Roy; two brothers, Dr. Elliott Charles Roy and his wife Eleanor "Nell" Holcombe and Gerald Bennett Roy and his wife Bernice; and one sister, Barbara Anne Roy. Raymond Roy was born and raised in Mansura, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He worked as a school teacher for the Lafayette Parish School Board for many years before his retirement. Mr. Roy served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Roy was a devout Catholic, and he dearly loved his family. He also enjoyed playing bourrée and cards with his friends in Maurice. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Pallbearers will be Brent Roy, Steve Meliet, Ron Meliet, David Harkins, Victoria Mathias, Jacob Roy and Kate Roy. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Mathias and Rose Roy. A Rosary will be recited by Brady LeBlanc on Sunday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:30 AM until time of services. Shuff, Elden Ray  
Elden Ray Shuff Dothan, AL - Elden Ray Shuff, 82, a resident of Ashford passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at a local hospital. A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating and Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Catholic Campaign Fund, 2700 West Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36303. Mr. Shuff was born March 4, 1932 in St. Landry Parrish, LA and spent the early part of his life there. He graduated from Eunice High School and later from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. He owned and operated a number of truck stops in Louisiana for several years and was very active in state politics lobbying for trucking interests in Louisiana. Mr. Shuff moved to Ashford 7 years ago and attended St. Columba Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife Iva Shuff and an infant son. Survivors include his wife Marilyn Shuff; a son Dan (Sandi) Shuff; daughters, Rebecca (Allen) Bracewell and Miriam (Bryan) Babineaux; grandchildren, Carey, Danielle, Thomas, and Emily; a sister Bessie Mazzoli; a brother Ivan Shuff; numerous nieces and nephews; 5 step-children; 8 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Dorothy, a resident of Lafayette, LA was the daughter of the late Rene Rabalais and the former Agnes Conques. She is survived by her children, David Scott Sonnier and wife Elizabeth, Lori S Courville and husband Vernon, Troy Mike Sonnier and wife Cathy, Dean Paul Sonnier and wife Sharline and Kelly Ruth Sonnier; her nine grandchildren; her fifteen great grandchildren; her sister, Ruth R. Pierret; her brother, Ray Rabalais and wife Cathy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of forty two years Jerrel Paul Sonnier; one granddaughter Rachael Michelle Sonnier; her sister Delores Larriviere and brother Robert Rabalais. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend David Newton (her grandson), Pastor of Riverview Baptist Church in Alexandria, will conduct the funeral services. Eulogist will be Phyllis Aucoin. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services. Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Fuller of Lafayette, and Phyllis Aucoin and her husband Kervin of Mamou; her grandchildren, Denise C. Hoss, Kimberly C. Sneed, Rev. David Newton, Chad Newton, Kervin "T.K" Aucoin, Kenneth Aucoin, Philip Arceneaux, Stefan Arceneaux and Crystal Guidry; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Philip White; her daughter, Kathy Bourque; and her parents, Roy and Mineola Pickler. Pallbearers will be Shawn Hoss, Alan Sneed, Chad Newton, Kenneth Aucoin, Stefan Arceneaux, Jeremiah Newton, Brandon Greenman and Noah Newton. Claudia Chandler Martin Baker LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield, LA for Claudia Chandler Martin Baker, 91, who passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2014 at Maison de Lafayette. Reverend Brad Franklin, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Winnfield will officiate. Interment wil be at the Couley Double Churches Cemetary. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Southern Funeral Home. Claudia was born on January 5, 1923 in Castor, LA, but grew in Mineola, TX. She was a resident of Winnfield for 41 years and Natchitoches for 18 years before moving to Lafayette in 1999 to be near her daughter. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was blessed to have two wonderful men as husbands, the love of her life, Asa Martin, to whom she was married for 35 years until his death in 1975, and the partner of her later years, Ben Baker, to whom she was married for 12 years until his death in 1995. She was a wonderful mother to her only child, Elizabeth Ann Martin. Her other great love was her Persian cat, Frosty, who provided unconditional love and companionship for 12 years. Claudia is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pace Cashi, of Sunset and her husband, Larry, who was adored by his mother-in-law. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Asa Martin and Ben Baker, and six sisters, Evelyn Schober, Dora Lee Kieffer, Peggy Franks, Vernette Elliott, Rosezeen Caldwell, and Floreen Butler. Her parents were Claude Chandler and Clara Kennedy Chandler Kieffer. Pallbearers will be Donald Kelley, Joe Kelley, Bryan Kelley, Matthew Kelley, Jamie Dantzler and Chandler Dantzler. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home and Heart of Hospice for their excellent care. Donations can be made in Mrs. Baker's name to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Aaron Paul Castille LAFAYETTE - Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 10:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Aaron Paul Castille, age 93, who died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at his residence. Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will conduct the memorial service. Lectors will be Louis Vincent and Francis Fontenot. Survivors include wife of 71 years, Verna Stutes Castille; his daughter, Jodie Castille Powell and husband Tommy; his sister, Mary Ann Vincent and husband Louis; his brother, Carol Castille; two grandchildren, Ryan Powell and Ashley Powell David and husband Kenneth; five great grandchildren, Kinsley, Trenton, Ashlyn, Blaze and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul H. Castille and Laura Roy Castille; and his brothers, Clyde and Lawrence Castille. Mr. Castille was a resident of Lafayette for most of his life. At an early age he joined the Civil Conservation Corps. Upon his return, he joined the La. National Guard and then enlisted in the United States Army during WWII serving with the 256th Infantry. After his discharge, Aaron enjoyed horse racing as a jockey at the Bush Tracks. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1286, the D.A.V., and the Ridge Road Riders. He enjoyed farming and gardening. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Family Choice Care Hospice, 206 Deertree Drive, Lafayette, La. 70507 or to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1301 Old Spanish Trail, Scott, LA 70583.
