John "June" Senegal, Jr. was born to John Senegal, Sr. and Melia Duhon Senegal on September 4, 1942. Mr. John Senegal was a native of Cankton and a lifelong resident of Scott. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, as well as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
In his early years, Mr. John Senegal was a farmer. He then went on to work in grocery retail at National Food Store for 16 years. Following the grocery retail employment, he went on to work for Magnolia Reliable Liquor as a truck driver for 17 years. During his lengthy stay at both jobs, he developed friendships that would last a lifetime.
Mr. John Senegal had a passion for his family and dedicated his life to them. He was hard working, strong, and gentle. For years, he selflessly made sacrifices to ensure that all of his family members had not only what they needed but also what they wanted. He was kind, generous, and a man of his word. Mr. John Senegal loved all of his family endlessly and unconditionally, with such joy and pride that it was apparent every time they were together or when he would speak of them. There was never a time when they could not talk to him or that he would not offer his advice. The sacrifices he made for his family was clearly seen in the strength, fight, love, and dedication he showed in his final days. He will be sadly and deeply missed, but we will cherish his memories forever.
Mr. John Senegal leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Gertie Arceneaux Senegal; one son, Mickey Senegal and his wife, Stacy, of Lafayette; two daughters, Melissa Senegal and Selina Senegal and her fiancée, Keith, all of Lafayette; eleven grandchildren, Trommy Sonnier, Alisia Senegal, Karl Trenton Senegal, Traylon Barrow, Brian Keith Metoyer, Jr., Ahmari Metoyer, Ahmya Metoyer, Braedon Metoyer, D'Antre Lewis, Donte Wesley, Terrilyn Wesley; one sister, Rita Sonnier and her husband, Jessie, of Carencro; one brother, Raymond Senegal and his wife, Rebecca, of Lafayette; three goddaughters, Linda Arceneaux, Charmaine Arceneaux, and Shanita Arceneaux; one godson, Shelton Sonnier; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He also leaves behind his in laws to cherish his memories, Theresa "Janiewell" Arceneaux, Willa Mae Arceneaux, Willis Arceneaux, Calvin Arceneaux and his wife, Shirley, and Mitchell Arceneaux and his wife, Janell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Senegal, Sr. and Melia Duhon Senegal; maternal grandparents, Placcid and Emma Duhon; paternal grandparents, Adam and Josephine Senegal; his son, Carl Senegal; one brother, Antoine Senegal and six infant siblings; two brothers-in-law, Joseph "Big Joe" Arceneaux and Curly Arceneaux; three sisters-in-law, Orelia Senegal, Theresa Arceneaux, and Rita Arceneaux; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Curly Sr. and Evelyn Arceneaux.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Church.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Scott from 7:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Shefton Sonnier, Shelton Sonnier, Rickey Arceneaux, Raymone Senegal, Fredderick Arceneaux, Anthony Senegal, Wilton Senegal, and Brian Keith Metoyer, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews, and other relatives.
