Alvin "Blanc" Venable

SCOTT - Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Alvin Joseph Venable, age 85, who passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Thomas Voorhies, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will officiate at the services. Reader will be Shane Royer.

Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross, How Great Thou Art, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, and On Eagles Wings.

Mr. Venable was a native of Cankton and a resident of Scott for most of his life. He was owner and operator of Cue Time in Scott for over 30 years. He was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Usher Society.

Survivors include his former wife and the mother of his children, Mabel Trouvet Venable of Lafayette; one son, Randy Venable and his wife, Rhonda, of Lafayette; two daughters, Earline Benoit and Linda Royer and her husband, Dale, all of Scott; one daughter-in-law, Clara Venable of Duson; three sisters, Evelyn Castille of Carencro, Theresa Hebert and her husband, Presley, of Youngsville, and Joyce Roger of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Christine Trahan, Shane Royer, Shannon Royer, Terry Venable, Cody Venable, Zach Venable, Demi Venable, and Kylie Hanks; and eight great grandchildren, Jarrett Trahan, Dondie Royer, Abbie Royer, Bailee Royer, Tanner Royer, Tyler Royer, Madison Venable, and Andre Venable.

He was preceded in death by parents, Willie Venable and the former Amenthe Faul; his companion, Leona Tabb; one son, Donald James Venable; one son-in-law who he loved like a son, Joseph Gerald Benoit; five brothers, David Venable, Rene Venable, Willie Venable, Jr., Alton Venable, and Preston Venable; three sisters, Adeline Meche, Hilda Leger, and Lena Venable; and one grandson, Carl Paul Benoit.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home by Joyce Roger and Evelyn Castille.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Shane Royer, Shannon Royer, Jarrett Trahan, Zach Venable, Ricky Venable, and Terry Venable.
