Amar W. Benoit
JENNINGS - A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Amar W. Benoit, 93 of Jennings, LA at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, LA on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Father Charles McMillin officiating. Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings, LA on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 2:30 PM until 8:30 PM. A Rosary will be recited, Monday evening at 6:00 PM by the Knights of Columbus, followed by a eulogy. The Benoit family request visitation to resume on Tuesday at 9:00 AM until the time of his funeral Mass. Amar will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
Amar was born in Welsh, LA on February 20, 1921 to the late Joseph and Claudia Guidry Benoit. He passed from this life on July 5, 2014. Amar was first of all a man of God, devoted to his wife and children. His home was a sacred harbor filled with love, joy, prayers and music. He gave his children the virtue of unconditional love. Amar's love for family went beyond his doorstep to include hundreds of relatives as he orchestrated over 60 years of family reunions that are a cornerstone of the Benoit clan. The void created by his passing will forever be filled with wonderful memories of a richly blessed lifetime for all those who were privileged to know him.
At the age of 19, he began his employment with Zigler motors. He was called to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army
Air Force in October of 1942. He served during World War II
as an Air Traffic Controller in Central Flying Training Command. He was discharged December, 1945.
After his military service, he returned to Zigler Motors in Jennings to continue his career in the automobile industry. The Ford dealership was bought by Bubba Oustalet in 1952 and Amar continued to serve in multiple roles reaching the position of General Manager. He was instrumental in the dealerships receiving several national awards. He became a member of the Ford Society of Professional Sales Manager in 1973 and was awarded the honor of National Sales Manager of the Year in 1976. Even after semi-retirement he served as Automotive Consultant and Vice President of all Bubba Oustalet Corporations.
In 2006, Amar received the Outstanding Business Person of the Year from the Jeff Davis Parish Business Alliance for his years of dedication and accomplishments.
Amar was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church and served as a volunteer in many capacities including such organizations as the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Jennings Lions Club and a founding member for the Bayou Girl Scout Council in 1956. He served as Cub Master with Calcasieu Area Boy Scout Council. He was a member of the American Rose Society and a consulting rosarian. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation of Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet.
Amar is survived by his wife Lucy Woods Benoit of Sulphur, LA, one son, Victor J. Benoit (Heidi) of Lafayette, LA; four daughters, Nannette Briggs (Don G.) of Lafayette, LA, Edith Reed (Richard) of Sulphur, LA, Becky Reed (Danny) of Jennings, LA, Tess Cormier (Damon) of Lake Charles, LA; one step-son, Charlie Woods (Sherry) of Sulphur, LA; three step-daughters, Carolyn Geldmacher (Mike) of Carencro, LA, Debbie Trahan (Greg) of Sulphur, LA, Wendy Brown (Glen) of Lafayette, LA; One sister Beulah Louviere of Lake Charles, LA; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Claudia Benoit, his beloved wife of 53 years Alice M. Benoit, and one son Brandon F. Benoit
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Castle, Chris Castle, Rickey Reed, David Reed, Matt Reed and Caleb Cormier.
Honorary pallbearer will be Nic Benoit.
