Charles Anthony Naomi, Jr.
Lafayette, LA - A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday April 13th, 2014 at 4 pm at Family Life Church, 2223 Dulles Drive Lafayette, La. for "Charlie", age 81, who passed away peacefully on March 22, 2014 while his daughters held his hands and sang Amazing Grace to him. Interment of ashes will be held at St. John Cathedral Cemetery on Saturday April 12th, 2014 at 6pm and will include Military Funeral Honors.
"Sonny Boy" was born May 1, 1932 to Charles Naomi Sr. and Bertha Boudreaux Naomi, and he was a native and long-term resident of Lafayette. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1951 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy
during the Korean War
. His early career path led him to restaurant management with Pitt Grills, Kettle Restaurants, Tiffin Inn Restaurants, and eventual ownership of several Kettle Restaurants and Charlie's Foods and Spirits in Houma and Morgan City. Upon returning to Lafayette, he worked for Service Chevrolet and managed the Kajun Kitchen. In his later years, he found his niche selling motor homes at Stevens RV Sales, and at time of death, Southern RV, where he was known as "Charlie Boudreaux". He was an active member of the Sertoma Club, Civitan Club, and Terrebonne Black Bass Club in early years. He also took up flying lessons with Fournet Flying Services and enjoyed the sense of freedom flying a plane brought to him.
Survivors include his sons: Eric Naomi, Michael Naomi, Charles II (Chuck) Naomi and his fiancé Kelly Howard; daughters: Cindy Hunter and her husband Brad Hunter, Melissa "Lisa" Hanks, Joleen Naomi Chitty and her husband, Brent Chitty, Kayla King Naomi; a son-in-law, Scott Appleby; ten grandchildren: Chad Appleby, Gage Boudoin, Katelynn Hulin, Kirstynn Hulin, Jacob Boudoin, Heather Hunter, Emily Hanks, Dylan Guilliot, Caroline Naomi, Evan Naomi, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Billy Joyce Cutler of California and a brother Shawn Naomi of Lafayette along with the mothers of his children, Barbara Lopez Naomi and Brenda Credeur Guidry-Meche.
He was preceded in death by his wife RuthAnn Holmes Naomi by only 10 days; his parents, Charles Sr. and Bertha Boudreaux Naomi; his sister Shirley Naomi Boutin, and brother-in-law Russ Cutler.
A long life's way he loved and is survived by his step children: Charles King and Melissa King Russelburg; six step grandchildren: Devin Russelburg, Dylan Russelburg, Taylor King, Kelcie King, Kylie Hulin-Broussard, and McKaelynn Hulin-Broussard; his stepmother, Jane Chicazola Naomi and his brothers, Johnny, Dean, David, Jamie, Jody Stinson, and their families.
Charlie never met a stranger, had a continual joke or story to tell, loved his cigars, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Even upon being told he had late stage cancer, his response was "Well, that's one heck of a note! Guess I'm gonna have to apologize to the Good Lord for trying to wipe out the fish population!"
The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, Dr. Zander and his nurses for being so comforting and nurses Hannah and Whitney, from floor 5 South at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for the compassionate care given to Charlie and his children.In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Hospice of Acadiana.
