LAFAYETTE - A Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Dan Rhodes, 86, who died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Southwest Louisiana War Veteran's Home in Jennings.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Larry Langley will officiate.
Dan was born Tuesday, June 22, 1926 in Weir, Mississippi and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He proudly served as an Electrician's Mate Third Class in the Navy during World War II
where he earned the Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal.
Dan loved taking care of his yard after his retirement. He was a very enigmatic man and enjoyed sharing his positive outlook with others. He developed many valued relationships throughout his entire career along the Gulf Coast.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty Blackwell Rhodes of Lafayette; two sons, Mike Rhodes and his wife Kathy and Tommy Rhodes and Debbie Christison all of Youngsville; three daughters, Diane Taylor of Ackerman, MS, Cindy Eubanks and her husband Ronnie of Louisville, MS and Becky McIntyre and her husband Gene of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Edna Winkler of McCool, MS, fourteen grandchildren, Kerri Whittington, Leigh Thomas, Chance Taylor, Jolie D'Antonio, Jaime Eubanks, Thomas Rhodes, Taylor Rhodes, Aaron Rhodes, Adam Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes, Terry McIntyre, Brett McIntyre, Danny McIntyre and Tyler McIntyre, six great grandchildren and his faithful Boston Terrier, Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Rhodes and the former Hallie Bowie and two brothers, Ernest Rhodes and Aaron "Bud" Rhodes.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and resumes Friday, April 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Chance Taylor, Thomas Rhodes, Aaron Rhodes, Adam Rhodes, Terry McIntyre, Brett McIntyre, Danny McIntyre and Tyler McIntyre.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings.
