Elizabeth S. "Betty" Hernandez
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette for Elizabeth S. "Betty" Hernandez, age 81, the former Elizabeth Strack, who died on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:09 AM in Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Musical selections will be, "He Touched Me", "Amazing Grace", "Be Not Afraid", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "Isaiah 49.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy H. Hallett and her husband, Jack of Magnolia, Texas and Beth Roseburg and her husband, Don of Weatherford, Texas; three sons, Richard J. Hernandez and Paul A. Hernandez, both of Lafayette and John A. Hernandez, Jr. and his wife, Jackie of Church Point; one grandchild, Casey Espinosa and her husband, Mario of Pearland, Texas and one brother, Remy Strack and his wife, Margaret of St. Bernard, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hernandez, Sr.; her parents, Remy Strack and the former, Elizabeth Desemar, both natives of New Orleans, Louisiana and a sister, Margaret Strack Tatford.
Mrs. Hernandez was born on January 20, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for many years. Prior to her retirement from Avondale Shipyard, she worked most of her career as a file clerk. Mrs. Hernandez taught Catechism at St. Genevieve in her earlier life. She enjoyed cross word puzzles and was an avid reader. Mrs. Hernandez was a devoted member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
Family members will serve as Pallbearers.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Sunday from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
The family expresses a heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Amelia Manor for the loving care they gave to their mother in her time of need.
