LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Monday, February 28, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Ernestine Barnhill, 88, who passed away Friday, February 25, 2011, at her home in Lafayette.
Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend John T. Wamsley, of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, will officiate.
Mrs. Barnhill was born Friday, November 24, 1922 in Mendenhall, MS and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Ernestine worked clerically in city government in Montgomery, LA and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong Baptist and belonged to the 1st Baptist Church of Montgomery, LA for many years.
Ernestine enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Barnhill is survived by four children, her son Calvin C. Barnhill and his wife, Jacqueline of Lafayette and three daughters, Sharon Case and her husband, Richard of Houston, TX and Lisa Barnhill and Jane Gorham, both of Lafayette; her five grandchildren, Joshua Barnhill of Baton Rouge, Elizabeth N. Racca of Houston, TX and Danielle Lagneaux, Brandon Doucet and Faron Racca and his wife, Meagen, all of Lafayette; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 44 years, the late George Calvin Barnhill; her parents George Washington Hughes and the former Fannie Dupre'; and her two brothers, Charles Hilton Hughes and Vernon Hughes.
The family requests that visiting hours at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette be observed on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Calvin C. Barnhill, Joshua Barnhill, Richard Case, Faron Racca, Brandon Doucet and Clint Young.
Honorary Bearers are Mike Junot and Mark Sikes.
