Florence Mae "Flo" Guidry
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at a 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Florence "Flo" Guidry, age 94, the former Florence Knight, who passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at her residence in Lafayette.
The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Interment will follow on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Port Hudson National Cemetery located at 20978 Port Hickey Rd., Zachary, LA 70791.
Ms. Guidry was a native of Lafayette, and lived on numerous military bases until returning to Lafayette in 1963. She was an avid bingo player. Ms. Guidry was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Cathedral Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette.
Survivors include two sisters, Eunice K. Breaux and Dolores K. Geisendorff, both of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Joseph Guidry; her parents, Joseph Ellis Knight and the former Lucille Doucet; three brothers, Gabriel Maxim Knight, Pierre Willis Knight and George Knight; and two sisters, Beulah Cecile Knight and Theresa "Terry" Riley.
A rosary will be prayed at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and will continue until service time on Tuesday.
The family wishes to thank Kemp Coreil, MD and his nurse, Sherry and the staff at Hospice Compassus for their care and compassion extended to them during Ms. Guidry's illness.
