Reverend George Robert Richardson, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Lafayette on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 12:00 noon for Reverend George Robert Richardson, Jr. who passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at 7:35 pm at his residence. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church prior to the service from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Graveside services will be held at Garden of Memories in Metairie, LA on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 12:00 noon.

Rev. George Robert Richardson, Jr., age 88, died after a brief struggle with cancer at home surrounded by his family.

He was born November 15, 1923 in New Orleans, LA to Mamie McKay Richardson and George Robert Richardson, Sr. who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie, three children, four grandsons, five great grandchildren, one step great grandson and one brother. Children are George Robert, III (Bob) and his wife Susan of Dripping Springs, TX, daughter, Beth Foreman and her husband, Bill of Lafayette, LA and daughter Barbara Harvey and her husband, Charles of Wake Forest, NC. Grandsons are Scott Foreman of Lafayette, LA and Greg Foreman (wife Kerry) of Lafayette, LA, Doug Richardson of Dripping Springs, TX and Jason Richardson (wife Laura) of Santa Monica, CA. Great grandchildren are Austin Foreman, Kaitlyn Foreman, Matthew Ashy of Lafayette, LA and Amelia Richardson, George Richardson and Benjamin Richardson of Santa Monica, CA, ; brother James Richardson (wife Janis) of Shreveport, LA; one nephew, Bryan Richardson, two nieces, Carol (Husband Mike) Kelley and Laura (husband Phillip) Upshaw and great nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are grandsons and sons-in-law, Scott Foreman, Greg Foreman, Doug Richardson, Jason Richardson, Bill Foreman and Charles Harvey.

Rev. Richardson was a graduate of Tulane University and received his Masters degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was Pastor of the Coliseum Place Baptist Church in New Orleans, Temple Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, Elysian Fields Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, Oak Hill Baptist Church in Plain Dealing, LA, Northside Baptist Church in Lafayette, LA and First Baptist Church in Kaplan, LA. He also served as Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, LA. In addition he was a Chaplain in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years, concluding his service with a four year active duty assignment as Director of Reserve of Chaplain Affairs at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1983.
