Howard Joseph "Howie" Dejean
LAFAYETTE - A Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Howard Joseph "Howie" Dejean, 85, who passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resumes Monday, December 2, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A rosary will be recited Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
Father Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Abbeville, will officiate.
Howard was born Thursday, November 8, 1928 in Breaux Bridge and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. He was a proud veteran, who served in the Army
during the Korean Conflict
. He worked as a truck driver in the Oil industry for over 25 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family along with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were his greatest joy and placed a sparkle in his eye. He loved to indulge in a delicious rib eye steak from time to time as well as gathering with his whole family for a BBQ. He will be deeply missed.
Howard is survived by his three daughters, Brenda Pierce and her husband George of Mobile, AL, Glenda Dejean of Breaux Bridge and Vickie Mistric and her husband Mike of Broussard; a son, Herman Dejean; a step-daughter, Judy Cormier both of Lafayette; 14 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, dear nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Angelle Dejean; parents, Husville Dejean and the former Isabelle Champagne; three sons, Ronald Dejean, Howard Dejean, Jr. and Raywood Dejean, Sr.; a step-son, Johnny Cormier; a step-daughter, Gloria Cormier and a grandchild, Jerome Dejean.
The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of St. Joseph Hospice, Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home and his Home Healthcare Nurse, Isabelle Dubois for the compassionate care given to Howard and his family.
