James Steven Pumphrey

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for James Steven Pumphrey, age 65, who passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Deacon Ken Arnaud of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville will officiate at the services.

Mr. Pumphrey was a native of Monroe and had been a resident of the Lafayette area for the past 38 years. He was employed with Village Du Lac for many years. More recently, he was employed with Evangeline Downs Race Track as a security officer for 5 years.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Pumphrey of Duson, Heath Pumphrey and his wife, Nina, of Lafayette; one stepson, John Mayer of Texas; one stepdaughter, Tammy Mayer and her husband, Ronald Romero, of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Mayson Pumphrey, Skyllar Pumphrey, Michelle Pumphrey and Aidan Kowarsch; seven step-grandchildren, Dustin Lormand, Tylar Lormand, Madisyn Hayes, Brooklyn Hayes, April Lemaster, Michael Lemaster and Destiny Guidry; one brother, Timothy Pumphrey of Bossier City; and one sister, Joann Causey of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Benoit Pumphrey; his parents, James Pumphrey and the former Josephine Spencer, both natives of Monroe.

A rosary will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to defray funeral costs.
