Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22, 2010 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Jimmy Russell Alfred, age 57, who passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 in Lafayette.
Interment was in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Peter Emusa, pastor of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Carencro, officiated at the services. Readers were Susan Alfred and Rosalyn Alfred. Giftbearers were Mary Cormier and Raven Cormier.
Musical selections were "Amazing Grace," "The Eye Is On The Sparrow," "The Wind Beneath My Wings," "and "Take My Hand Precious Lord."
Mr. Alfred, born November 28, 1952, was a native and a lifelong resident of Carencro. He was affectionately known as the Shoe Shine Man on Simcoe for all of his life. Mr. Alfred was a parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Carencro.
Survivors included one stepdaughter, Lisa Jones of Houma; six brothers, Albert Alfred and his wife, Rosalyn, James Alfred and his wife, Mary Ann, Charlie Alfred, all of Carencro, Clifton Alfred and his wife, Marie, of Breaux Bridge, Jacque "Joe" Alfred and his wife, Margaret, and Jerry Alfred, all of Lafayette; six sisters, Doris Taylor and her husband, LeRoy, of Breaux Bridge, Cornella Alfred, Anna Bell Roy, Annie Lou Alfred and Lucile Thomas, all of Lafayette, Olivier Woods of Lewisburg; and his primary caregivers, Theresa Davis of Carencro, Erica Ledezma and Laura, both of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Yoke Alfred and the former Enola Landry; three brothers, Carlton Alfred, Oris Alfred and Lagis Alfred; and three sisters, Mary Alfred, Cecile Thomas and Mayola Alfred.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 a.m. Thursday until service time on Thursday.
Pallbearers were Joseph Davis, David Cormier, Kevin Alfred, Charles Alfred, Robert Goodie, Carlos Normand. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Alfred and Jacque Alfred.
