John D. Gerhart

LAFAYETTE - A memorial service mass will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for John D. Gerhart, age 82.

The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services. Co-celebrant will be The Rev. John Bedington of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of Lafayette.

John was a native of Kellers Church, Pennsylvania and made his home in Lafayette for the last 30 years. He died at his residence on February 17, 2014. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of The Iberians and the Half Fast Motoring Society. He was employed by Air Logistics and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

John is survived by his wife, Laurence M. Gerhart; daughter, Carrie Parenti and husband, Bob, of Tulsa, OK.; step-sons Keith Weber and wife, Tessie, of Carencro, Carroll Weber and wife, Tina, of Arlington, TN; step-daughter Trudy Gomez and husband, Bryan, of Milton; grandchildren: Natalie Paige and Sarah Parenti; step-grandchildren: Stacy Gomez, Christopher Gomez, Zachary Gomez and Gena Glorioso, Lindsey Weber, and Megan Weber Glowacki and Greg; and step great-grandchildren: Austyn Wood, Hewitt Gomez, and Jackson Glowacki; his brother Glenn Gerhart and wife, Jane, of Indianapolis, Indiana; his niece, Tracy Gerhart of Indianapolis, Indiana; and foster brother Tom Gilligan of Perkasie, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Olive M. and William Gerhart and his step-grandson, Nick Weber.

In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of Acadiana; 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Saturday at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
