Kenneth Joseph Norman, Sr.
CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette for Kenneth Joseph Norman, Sr., age 68, who passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at his residence in Carencro.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services. Readers will be John Schexnayder and Tiffany Credeur. Giftbearers will be his granddaughters.
Musical selections will be provided by Charlotte Jagneaux, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Be Not Afraid, Boundless Love, Amazing Grace, and On Eagle's Wings.
Mr. Norman was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Carencro. He was previously employed with UPS, Southern Pacific, eventually owning and operating his Sand and Gravel business and Swifty Foods Grocery and was also a school bus driver for the Lafayette Parish School Board. He was a parishioner and an Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette. Mr. Norman was a Sacristan at St. Agnes of Assisi Chapel at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Navy
on the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Norman was a business owner for the majority of his life, was a very hard worker and a great provider for his family. He retired with the Lafayette Parish Consolidated Government on June 16, 2006, with fifteen years of service. Mr. Norman was an avid Pickleball player and a medalist in many tournaments in the Midsouth Region. He was a member of the USAPA for Pickleball and also served as an elected member of our local Lafayette Pickleball Committee.
Survivors include his wife of eight years on June 16, 2014, Julie Glover Breaux Norman of Carencro; one son, Kenneth J. Norman, Jr. of Carencro; one step-son, Matthew Breaux of Carencro; three daughters, Kimberly N. Vasquez and her husband, Ross, of New Orleans, Tiffany N. Credeur and her husband, Keith, of Carencro and Connie N. Frederick and her husband, Jason, of Abbeville; one step-daughter, Amy Mouton of Carencro; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, Tommy Anthony Norman and his wife, Jean, of Church Point; and one sister, Cynthia N. Breaux and her husband, Richard, of Addis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Latiolais Norman; his parents, Anthony "Tony" Norman and the former, Odile Hulin; one daughter-in-law, Jacqueline A. Norman; and one grandson, Gage Norman.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ms. Pat Richard with Hospice of Acadiana, a true Angel of Mercy.
Pallbearers will be Ken Norman, Jr., Tom Norman, Alex Vasquez, Scotty Breaux, Tyler Frederick and Cole Frederick. Honorary pallbearers will be Carson Credeur, Grayson Norman and Jacob Norman.
