Louella E. Alexander
LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Progressive Baptist Church for Louella E. Alexander, 81, who died January 1, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Lloyd Joiner Jr.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Louella, a native of Lafayette, was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who loved cooking, sewing and sharing her talents with others. The career she loved began in 1959 at the Lafayette Sanitarium, presently known as Lafayette General, where she worked as a Nurse's Aide for 33 years until she retired in 1992. Louella was a devoted member of Progressive Baptist Church for more than 50 years and participated in many church activities. She has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 47 years where she served as Treasurer for Esther Chapter 187. She will be greatly missed by her children, family, friends and all who came to know and love her.
She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Gotch (Alfred) of Lafayette, LA and Brenda Patton of Missouri City, TX; her sons, Stanley Alexander Jr. of Houston, TX, and David Alexander( Karen Johnson) of Lafayette, LA; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; her sister, Beatrice Zeno of Lafayette, LA; half sisters, Lorena Andrus of Lafayette, LA and Eunice White of Baton Rouge, LA; Sisters-in-law, Sybil and Elizabeth Sam of Lafayette, LA; and daughter-in-law, Ramona Alexander of Lafayette, LA. and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Louella was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Alexander, Sr.; children, Mary Guidry, Shirley, James, and Daniel Alexander; her parents, John and Celestine Sam; siblings, Mary, Margaret, Willie, Felix, Horace, Wilson, Dudley, Clifton, John, and Cleveland Sam, Evelyn Walker, Eleanor Herring, and half-brother, Weston Simpson.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Glen Mire and the staff at River Oaks Manor and Hospice of Acadiana for the love, compassion and care they extended to our mother and family.
Visitation will be observed Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Progressive Baptist Church from 7 a.m. until the time of service.
