LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Mary Selman Bernard, 92, who died November 12, 2012 at home.

Services will be conducted by Fr. Thomas James, SVD.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Broussard, LA.

Mary Selman "Agnes" Bernard was born in Broussard, LA on March 14, 1920 to Loudice Bernard, Sr. and Althea Charles Bernard. She retired after 50 years of working as a cook at the residences of the late Dr. George DesOrmeaux, Dr. Adrien Stewart and the late Dr. Charles Stewart. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary 504. She was actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her sisters, Louise Taylor and Mary Anna Washington; one brother, Loudice (Ida) Bernard, Jr. and a niece, Shirley Bernard Ledet, who came to live with her at the age of 5.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loudice Bernard, Sr. and Althea Charles Bernard; her husband, Prudhomme Smith; her brother, Herbert Bernard, Sr.; her sister, Irma Batiste and her nephew, Herbert Bernard, Jr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Syrie Funeral Home from 7:00 a.m. until time of service.

A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m.
