Masel Marie Marse

LAFAYETTE - A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home for Masel Marie Marse, 84, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at her home in Lafayette.

Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.

Father Gil Dutel Pastor of St. Edmonds Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA will officiate the services.

Mrs. Marse was born on September 28, 1929 in Duson, LA and resided in Lafayette, LA most of her life. She was the wife of Curtis Joseph Marse for 57 years. Masel graduated as a Registered Nurse from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA in 1950. Before dedicating her life to taking care of special needs children in the Lafayette Public School System, she worked in a military hospital in Albuquerque, NM and at the old Charity Hospital in Lafayette, LA. She had a love for life, laughter and family. Putting her family first, she also loved cooking, traveling and had a gift of making friends with anyone that she encountered.

Masel is survived by one son, Michael Curtis Marse and his wife Martha Gaubert Marse, of Lafayette, LA; three daughters, Cheryll Anne Marse, of Lafayette, LA; Suzanne Marse Bourque and her husband Bryan Rene, of Maurice, LA; and Elizabeth Marse Zitzmann and her husband Thomas James, of Mandeville, LA; nine grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Daigle Hanby and her husband Dr. Duncan Frederick Hanby, of Lafayette, LA; Dr. Megan Elizabeth Daigle, of Hoboken, NJ; Michelle Marse Fike and her husband Jess Edward; Monica Marse Ham and her husband Stephen Walter; Melanie Marse Spoelker and her husband Philip David, all of Youngsville, LA; Alexander Stephen Bourque, of Abbeville, LA; Zachary Rene Bourque, of Lafayette, LA; Olivia Elise Bourque, of Maurice, LA; and Brooks Zitzmann, of New Orleans, LA; and seven great-grandchildren, Avery Belle and Graham Arnold Hanby, of Lafayette, LA; Cullen Edward, Bennett Michael and Griffin James Fike; and Addison Claire and Mason Stephen Ham, all of Youngsville, LA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Joseph Marse, her parents Leodis Hebert and the former Eris Elise Hanks and one son, Steven Jude Marse.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. until time of services at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Duncan Frederick Hanby, Jess Edward Fike, Stephen Walter Ham, Philip David Spoelker, Alexander Stephen Bourque, Zachary Rene Bourque, Brent Michael Hession and Jerry Hanks.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Marse, Leonard Marse, Paul Champagne, Dr. Kenneth Champagne, Dr. Bradley Chastant, Jr., Robert Daigle, John and Lucille Daigle, Bryan Bourque, Tommy Zitzmann, Eleanor Hawkins and Barbara Buetow.

A special thanks to all of Masel Marse's caregivers, Michelle Broussard, Mary Fontenette, Brenda Dugas and to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for the excellent care given to Masel during her illness.
