Dr. Thomas Webber Huff
LAFAYETTE - A Memorial Service for Dr. Thomas Webber Huff will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 19, 2014 at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 1030 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA. Officiating will be the Reverend Joseph E. Daly, Rector.
Dr. Huff a retired doctor of dental surgery, was born on September 1, 1926 in Hebron, Mississippi, a son of the late Solon and Mabel McLemore Huff. Dr. Huff was the youngest of the three sons. His high school education was at Laurel, Mississippi where he played on the varsity basketball team. He achieved the rank of lieutenant in the United States Navy in World War II. He earned the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia in 1951 and subsequently, a Master of Science Degree with a specialty in periodontology.
Dr. Huff is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gladys Mack Huff; sister-in-law, Mary Mack Attrep; brothers-in-law Dr. Donald Mack, Dr. Thomas Strain, and B.H. Gilley, along with many nieces and nephews including Gregory Attrep and Jeanne Attrep, MD. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Solon and Willis, and sisters-in-law, Dr. Dorothy Mack Strain and Jeanne Mack Gilley, PhD.
Dr. Huff practiced general dentistry in Laurel, Mississippi. A member of the Acadian Academy of the Periodontology, he practiced this specialty in Atlanta, Georgia. A reunion with his Emory classmates was a special joy of his life. He was a member of the Fraternity XI-PSI, Alpha Eta Chapter, Emory University, and of the Georgia Dental Association. He also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Dr. Huff retired in 1989. He and Mrs. Huff moved to Shreveport, LA to be close to Mrs. Huff's sisters and brothers. After several years they returned to Georgia (Clarkesville) but, subsequently, returned to Lafayette, Louisiana.
Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law Dr. Donald Mack and B.H. Gilley; nephews, Gregory Attrep and John Hayden; and Dr. Bradley Chastant, Jr. and George Landry.
Visitation will be in the Owen Room of the church following the conclusion of the memorial service at the church columbarium.
