Venetta G. Champion
BATON ROUGE - Venetta G. Champion, a native of Lafayette and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Monday morning, November 12, 2012, at home at the age of 96.
She was a charter member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Penser et Parler. Venetta was a loving mother and grandmother to many more than her own. Her hospitality and fullness of life and love will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte C. Freeland and husband Joseph of Crowley, LA; son, Robert A. Champion and wife Estella of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren, Fran Yannity of Pleasonton, TX, Clint Freeland of Houston, TX, Christopher Champion of Houston, TX, Anna Courville of Houston, TX, and Beau Champion of Baton Rouge, LA; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Atwell E. Champion; parents Fred S. Gest Sr. and Marie Mouton Gest of Lafayette; sister, Annette G. Moore; and brother, Fred S. Gest Jr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church from 10am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, conducted by Fr. Tom Duhe. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Clint Freeland, Christopher Champion, Beau Champion, Charles Barbre, Chuck David and Randall Moore.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Shawayne Ardoin and Donna Couvillion for their love and tender care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or to the Atwell E. Champion Memorial Scholarship at the LSU School of Landscape Architecture in Venetta's memory.
