Victor H. "The Godfather" Raphael
JENNINGS - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Victor H. "The Godfather" Raphael, 76, who passed away Monday, May 13, 2013.
The Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Celsius Offor.
Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Victor graduated from Holy Rosary Institute in 1954 and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now UL of Lafayette) as one of the first African-Americans to attend the school. He also proudly served in the United States Army.
He worked with his parents and siblings at the family funeral homes, H. G. Raphael and Sons Mortuary, in Lafayette, Abbeville and Jennings, LA.
Professionally, Victor was known affectionately as "the Godfather". He was a loyal member of the New Orleans Embalmers Association, a life member of the Louisiana Funeral Directors & Morticians Association and life member of the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association.
Victor was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #77.
Victor leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ella Marie Duhon Raphael; three daughters, Brenda Hayes of Richmond, CA; Bella Raphael and Barbara Raphael of Raleigh, NC; one stepdaughter, Brandy White of Baton Rouge, LA; two stepsons, Robert Haley and Quincey Duhon, both of Jennings, LA; one sister, Jerry R. Caillier and her husband, Dr. James Caillier of Lafayette, LA ; one brother, Adonis Raphael of Houston, TX; one aunt, Lucy Vallot Hebert of Abbeville, LA; twenty-three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three godchildren, Wil Ann Leger of Abbeville, LA, Henry Taylor III of Cincinnati, OH and Destiny Kibodeaux of Baton Rouge, LA and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry G. and Sylvania V. Raphael and his sister, Emma Lou Raphael Taylor.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary will be prayed by the Knights of Peter Claver Council #77 at 10:00 a.m.
