William A. "Bill" Seabough
LAFAYETTE - William A "Bill" Seabough, age 82, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2014 at the Regional Medical Center of Acadiana.
Bill was born in Aurora, Missouri, April 26, 1931. Bill was the son of Rev. Robert Holmes Seabough and Marguerite Ellis Seabough. When Bill was 5 years old his family moved to Marshfield, MO where Bill began the first grade. Just a few years later the family moved to New Martinsville, WV where his father was Pastor of the First Baptist Church. Later, the family moved back to Gallatin, MO.
It was in Gallatin that Bill was an outstanding student and excelled in both football and basketball. He was Valedictorian of his graduating class and received a scholarship to Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, MO. On June 8, 1952, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Julie Wimber, and shortly after he was drafted into the US Army.
After his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Bill was sent to Germany. Following his two years of service, Bill and Julie moved to Springfield MO, where he entered Southwest Missouri State University. Upon graduation in 1956, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Bill and Julie continued to live in Springfield where Bill became the Minister of Education for 12 years at First Baptist Church. During those years, their children were born.
Later, the family moved to Lafayette where Bill became a beloved business man, and operated Acadiana Auto Insurance Agency until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rev. Jerry Seabough, and brother-in-law James Hathorn. Bill is survived by his wife Julie, son Robert Seabough and his wife Kay of Dallas, Texas, daughter Lisa and husband David Hankla of St. Augustine, FL, and daughter Candi and husband Michael McGonagill of Minneapolis, MN, and his sister Margie Hathorn and brother Ed Seabough, both Asheville, NC. Very important to Bill were his well-loved grandchildren, Andrew Seabough, Peter and Molly Hankla, Colin and Patrick McGonagill, Gina Hooper, Lisa Myers, and great-grandchildren Matthew and Daniel Myers, and Chelsea and Mac Hooper.
Bill Seabough became a Christian at a very early age, and all through the years has lived an exceptional Christian Life. Julie was the love of his life. There was much love expressed by Bill for his children and his grandchildren. After Bob & Kay's marriage, he embraced Kay's children and grandchildren as his own. All those that knew him felt that Bill loved them and they experienced the love of God flowing through Bill to them and many other people. For over forty years he taught a Bible Class at First Baptist Church, Lafayette.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, February 3, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Steve Horn.
