Woodrow Joseph Guidry
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Woodrow Joseph Guidry, age 90, who passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Guidry was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette. He was previously employed with Borden's, having retired in 1985 after thirty-five years as a truck driver and later as a supervisor. Mr. Guidry was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro and was a life member of the VFW
Post 9822 in Judice. He was a veteran of the military, having served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
. Mr. Guidry was in the U.S. Navy from June 25, 1943 until February 17, 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific aboard the USS Raleigh and USS Chaplin.
Survivors include his wife of sixty seven years, Mildred Potier Guidry of Lafayette; one son, Jerry John Guidry of Breaux Bridge; one daughter, Sandra G. Lasseigne and her husband, Joseph, of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Brian Lasseigne, Lisa Lasseigne and Brandon Guidry; one step granddaughter, Sharron Perry and her husband, Gentry; two great grandchildren, Kassadi Lasseigne and Averi Lasseigne; two step great grandchildren, Gavin Perry and Grant Perry; two brothers, Allen Rutledge of Cankton and Wilbert "Lee" Rutledge and his wife, Mary, of Tomball, TX; and three sisters, Eula Thibodeaux of Sunset, Ruth Guidry of Houston, TX and Nellie Talbot of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Rutledge Guidry and the former, Anita Hernandez Guidry; two brothers, Roy Rutledge and Raymond "Dale" Rutledge; and one sister, Eva Dartez.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Benoit, Brian Lasseigne, Jerry Guidry, Joe Lasseigne, Daryl Comeaux and Wilbert Lee Rutledge. Honorary pallbearer will be Allen Rutledge.
