Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Theresa Begnaud Naomi, 84, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at her residence in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
Reverend Msgr. Harry E. Benefiel will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be her three children, Nancy Jean Naomi, Patricia Ann Naomi and P. J. Naomi, Jr. Lectors will be Jacob Naomi and Lauren Elizabeth Montgomery. Eulogist will be Charlotte Hohorst Kean. Jodi Bollich, vocalist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, and Lauren Baker, violinist, will sing "Prayer of St. Francis", "My Shepherd Is The Lord", "Pie Jesu", "Panis Angelicus" and "Ave Maria" for the services.
Survivors include one son, Paul Jacob Naomi, Jr. and his wife Karen of Lafayette; two daughters, Nancy Jean Naomi and Patricia Ann Naomi-Smith and her husband Steve, all of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Paul Jacob Naomi III, Lauren Elizabeth Montgomery and Kelly Lee Montgomery; three step grandchildren, Jessica Lavergne, Teddy Beaullieu and Bridget Simon; four great grandchildren, Jonathan, Sophie, Isabelle and Hayes; and one brother, Lloyd Begnaud of Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul J. Naomi, Sr.; parents, Alex and Theresa Calais Begnaud; six brothers; and one sister.
Unique for her time, Mrs. Naomi was a smart business woman and great visionary. She was co-founder, with her husband, of Paul's Jewelry Store. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in keeping a beautiful home, which always had a great aroma of delicious cooking. She loved music and was an avid reader. Mrs. Naomi will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Naomi, David Naomi, Thomas Sonnier, Scott Hollenbeck, Chester Paul Begnaud and James Hohorst.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Smith, Carol John Smith and Kaliste Saloom, Sr.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
