LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 2:00 PM in First Baptist Church of Lafayette, 1100 Lee Ave. in Downtown Lafayette, for Charlene Hicks Marshall, 88, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Doctor Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Eulogist will be Caitlin Marshall. Pianist and soloist, Amy Whatley, will sing "Amazing Grace" and "Home Where I Belong" for the services. Interment will be in Acadia Resthaven Cemetery in Crowley.
Survivors include her son, Joe Marshall; one daughter, Johnnie Grice; two daughters-in-law, Dana Marshall and Peggy Marshall; five grandchildren, Caitlin Marshall, Charles Jarrod Marshall, Chad Marshall, Tina Blanchard Fisher and her husband Robert and Terri Blanchard Talley and her husband Noel; two brothers, Allan Ross Hicks and his wife Pauline and Ernie Hicks; one brother-in-law, Glenn Meyning; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ross Hicks and Parlie Pearl Hargrove Hicks; her husband, James E. Marshall; one son, Jerry Wayne Marshall; one grandchild, Toya Ann Blanchard; one sister, Flo Meyning; and one sister-in-law, Syble Hicks.
A native of Arkansas, raised in Missouri and moved to Louisiana in 1964, Charlene Marshall worked for years as a manager of Bill's Dollar Store in Rayne and Kaplan. She was an avid reader, wonderful cook and her favorite past time in recent years was watching NCIS. She was a woman of great faith, starting her day every morning reading her bible. Charlene was very active in her church and was passionate about gardening. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
Pallbearers will be Jarrod Marshall, Caitlin Marshall, Bobby Guidry, Brian Billie, Kyle Ramsey and Daniel Arabie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allan Hicks, Ernie Hicks, Chad Marshall, Mark Meyning and Glenn Meyning.
The family requests that visitation be observed in First Baptist Church of Lafayette, 1100 Lee Ave. in Downtown Lafayette on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM.
