Early Saturday morning, May 3rd, the world lost a wonderful, kind, loyal and loving woman, Dolores Zimmerman, co owner of Zim's Alignment, a prominent Lafayette business woman and community activist. Dolores served on several boards including, the Acadiana Down Syndrome Association and the Lafayette Association of Special Needs Cooking Team, and was a Master Gardener.

Dolores, or Dee, would have loved and cherished the weather that Saturday morning, especially the unseasonably cool temperature. With thoughts of Dee that morning, you could almost embrace the aroma of her 5 star, restaurant quality, crawfish etoufee' filling the air on the screen porch at "The Butte", as you lounge in white rockers, hearing from Dee, in storytelling fashion, the personal histories of seemingly every person and every family from New Orleans to Lake Charles and throughout Acadiana. She knew us all, where we came from, and where we were going, all of our triumphs and all of our tragedies. She listened and gave us solace with her selfless presence and twinkling blue eyes.

Like she did throughout her life, Dee savored every moment with her friends and family. Always ready to lend a hand or hear your story, she was the kind of friend most people dream of having. How lucky are we to have had her in our lives!

From her early years throughout her short life, Dee embodied those ideals that are seldom seen. She was a loving daughter, sweet sister, a leader, a lover of life, a true friend. She was charming, funny, fun loving and generous to a fault and always keenly interested in all that was happening in your world, never too busy for someone in need.

If Dee had a friend, you had a friend. If you had a friend, Dee would be their best friend. She was a people connector and from this loving center, relationships of all walks of life developed.

Dee was a gifted writer and had a sweet beautiful voice. From 8th grade through high school, Dee provided melody and harmony to a small group of friends named the Mayne String. She delighted in singing for the elderly, at church, or for friends. Dolores was cool and everyone wanted to hang out with her.

She was the essence of school spirit. Always at the forefront, Dee loved Teurlings and the families who grew up there and her love did not diminish after graduation. She became the source of information for all things Teurlings and kept classmates and friends connected.

Dee fished with a passion and loved her 2 dogs, Shugah and Muggsy.

For those of us fortunate enough to call her friend, we knew that we could call her anytime, anywhere, and she would be there for us or our family. Our world will be so much emptier and the sun will not shine as bright without her source of energy. There is now a void that no other person can fill.

No one embodied the memories of childhood, teenage and adult years like Dolores did. She was the representative of our youth, our foundation and all that we treasured growing up. May she rejoice in her reunion with her mother and father, Aurelien and Nellie Zimmerman, her brother, Brian and her beloved grandmother, Anna Dupuis.

Survivors include her brothers, Howard Keith Zimmerman of Lafayette, Guy Brendan Zimmerman and his wife Jill of Breaux Bridge, Todd Aurelien Zimmerman, ASID of Lafayette and Mark Louis Zimmerman of Houston; sister-in-law, Pam Vincent Zimmerman; her nieces and nephews, Paul, Tiffany, Jake, Lacie, and Zac, and her special friends, Sam and Ross Trahan, and Marietta LaFosse.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul, Jake and Zac Zimmerman, Ross Trahan, Brandon Lofton and Frank Richard.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Monday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions can be made in Dolores "Dee" Zimmerman's name to Teurlings Catholic High Women's Athletics Program, 139 Teurlings Drive, Lafayette, La. 70501.
