LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Doris Daigle, the former Doris Westberry, 90, who died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in Maryland.
Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
Reverend Monsignor Charles Mallet of Lafayette will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Sylvia Dischler and Elizabeth Shepherdson. Giftbearers will be Annakate Shepherdson, Campbell Shepherdson, CJ Shepherdson and Sellers Breaux. Eulogist will be Senator John Breaux. Kurt Boudreaux, organist, and Jacqueline Boudreaux, vocalist will perform the musical selections.
Mrs. Daigle was born in Georgetown, La. on February 24, 1923, to the late Don Westberry and Julia Thornton Dycus.
She met and married her husband, Lloyd Daigle, at Louisiana State University in 1941. After the war they moved to his hometown of Lafayette, La. where they lived until his death in 1991. Mrs. Daigle taught at Mt. Carmel School for 20 years, and Cecilia Primary for another 20 years.
In 1997 Mrs. Daigle moved to Easton, MD to be with her daughter and family. She belonged to both St. Michael's and Talbot Women's clubs where she enjoyed playing bridge.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd E Daigle, and one brother Billy Murray Westberry.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois Gail Breaux and Son-in-law Former Senator John Breaux; two sisters, Patricia Dycus Callender and Vicky Dycus McGee; four grandchildren, John Breaux Jr. and his wife Rainey, Bill Breaux, Elizabeth Breaux Shepherdson and her husband Jeff, Julia Breaux Melancon and her husband Jason; seven great grandchildren, Annakate Shepherdson, Campbell Shepherdson, CJ Shepherdson, Sellers Breaux, Carlyle Breaux, John Max Melancon, and Wren Melancon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would like to acknowledge her caretaker, Michelle Hostetter, for all the love and care she gave to Mrs. Daigle.
Pallbearers will be John Breaux, Jr., Bill Breaux, Jeff Shepherdson, Jason Melancon, Ryan Callender, and Eddie Daigle.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, DOWNTOWN, on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
Family and Friends are invited to a reception after the funeral service, at the home of her niece Connie Gremillion, 315 Stevenson Street, Lafayette, LA.
