Euse Mae Breaux Caillier Obituary
Euse Mae Breaux Caillier

LAFAYETTE - Mrs. Pearly Caillier, the former Euse Mae Breaux, age 89, passed away at her Breaux Bridge home surrounded by her family and loved ones on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

Our beloved mother was born and raised in Lafayette Parish with a Breaux Bridge address.

Mom always considered and said we were "from" Breaux Bridge. She was undeniably the world's greatest Mother, not only to her sons and daughter, but to most people she met. She took on everyone else's problems and often was the vehicle that solved them.

A "graduate" of sixth grade, she was the wisest person one could meet. Her advice and knowledge of various day to day issues were invaluable to all who sought her wisdom. It is these times in our lives that will live on in our hearts and minds as a tribute to her beautiful legacy of love. When not at her ironing board, she was watching her daily soap operas, then would take time to play games on her computer, crochet or do "word search" puzzles. Mom was a terrific cook and amazing baker. Most of her dishes were done without any written recipes. Some of her delectable dishes were Gateau Sirop, Tart a la Boille, Baked Grits, and Cheesy Grits. She loved playing Boureé, Skip Bo, and Canasta with her family and friends, but was one very tough opponent to face. Until her health began to fail her, she could be found at the monthly fundraisers for the Telephone Pioneers group at different casinos. She looked forward to this regular outing and it brought her much happiness to spend time with this loving group of people.

Mom was also a Breast Cancer survivor for over 10 years. She lived most of her adult life grieving the loss of her 15 year old son Gary after a tragic accident. Then later the loss of her beloved husband and best friend after 63 years of marriage. In the end, it was her battered heart that could not go on any longer. She will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed by many who loved her for her genuine love for others.

Mom is survived by her son Mike Caillier; her daughter, Barbara Menard and her husband Harold; her sister, Verna Boyer and her husband Lionel; and a sister in law, Margaret Breaux; her four grandchildren, Kayla Menard and her companion Quin LeBlanc, Kraig Menard and his wife Laura, Kevin Caillier and his wife Dawn, and Mills Caillier and his wife Jamie. She is also survived by her precious great grandchildren, Blaise Nero, Austen Menard, Avery Menard, Lyndsy Caillier, Trent Caillier, Karlon Caillier, Karter Caillier and Karson Caillier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearly "Shoe" Caillier; her son, Gary Caillier; her parents, Paul and Adella Stoute Breaux; her siblings, JC Breaux, Bertha Champagne, Lawrence Breaux, Adley Breaux, Paul Breaux, OJ Breaux, and Anna Mae Breaux.

Our family expresses a heartfelt gratitude to Amedysis Home Health and Hospice, especially Penny, Virginia, Genee, Barbara, Amanda, Desiree, Denaisha, Meagan and Chaplain Jodi for the loving support and care given to our mother in her time of need. Special thanks to friends and family, especially Flora Marks Barbara Hebert, Di Champagne and many others too numerous to name all.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate her special life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 12 Noon in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette. Rev. Gary Schexnayder will officiate the Mass.

Lectors will be Kayla Menard and Kevin Caillier. Gift bearers will be Kraig Menard and Mills Caillier. Valerie Andrus, organist & soloist, will sing "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman," "Be Not Afraid," "Prayer of St Francis," "Amazing Grace," "Precious Lord Take My Hand," and "One Bread One Body."

The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the service.

Even though she passed on to her eternal life on Ash Wednesday, we find it fitting to commemorate her life on the anniversary of our father's departure.
