Mrs. Babineaux was a native and resident of Lafayette Parish. She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Lamplighters Home Demonstrative Club, St. Anne Society, TIRAA, Lafayette Parish Bar Auxiliary and several POKENO groups.
Who by example demonstrated the value of family; she loved her family with a boundless, generous heart that always had room for many more. She had three children, raised four and was like a second mother to many more. She saw needs around her and took every opportunity to fulfill them. She taught values by doing. She lived a life of elegant simplicity, the "wind beneath my wings" always in the background supporting her husband, children and grandchildren's lives and endeavors.
A constant hostess who loved to cook; her home was open to family, friends and guests from around the world. We all remember morning coffee; special to all of us was her "Birthday Suppers" and vacation "catering". Comfortable in her own skin, she made family friends and guests from five continents feel so welcome and special for short soirees and extended stays. She welcomed exchange students and showed Cajun hospitality to all.
Florence loved to travel and with a perpetual child like sense of discovery she would share every new experience with you. Her pilgrimage to Belgium showed not only appreciation for the family she raised, but also the family that raised her. As a child of the depression she was ever mindful of a wasteful like and lived a life of frugality.
Along with her lifelong devotion to St. Theresa, the Little Flower, optimism and a sense of humor helped her view life's hardship as opportunities of service, allowing her to cry mostly tears of joy. Florence lived a colorful life, one navigated by a moral code of "black and white'. She loved animals, roses, and humming birds. Her life was a prayer.
