HAMMOND - Frank Lanier of Hammond, Louisiana stepped into eternity to meet his Lord face to face on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. He passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side.
Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by his parents Donald Sidney and Alma Drude Lanier, and his brother Herbert Lanier, all of Ponchatoula.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nell Townsend Lanier, daughter Patricia Lanier of Lafayette, Louisiana, son Mike Lanier (Larke), and grandsons, Cole and Todd Lanier, all of Birmingham, Alabama. Additional survivors include his brother Eugene Lanier of Lafayette, Louisiana and sister Eugenie Lanier Miller of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lanier was a graduate of Ponchatoula High School and the founder and longtime owner of Metropolitan Erection Company in New Orleans. Through his work Mr. Lanier was recognized as a leader in the construction industry in South Louisiana, serving on the boards of multiple trade organizations and associations. He also served, at the appointment of the Governor, on the State of Louisiana Contractor Licensing Board for several terms. He came to know the Lord in 1971 and in 1974 felt His calling to join the Gideon's International ministry organization. He continued in his service and participation with the Gideon's until recent months. Through this group he had the opportunity to distribute bibles to 5th graders, trade schools, nursing homes, and hotels. He also began speaking in local churches about the Gideon ministry and mission, raising support. He was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Venezuela, India, and South Africa distributing bibles and telling people about Christ. In addition, he served for six years as the Louisiana State President of this organization. One of his greatest joys with this group was their service to the prisoners in Angola State Penitentiary where he saw the Holy Spirit working in miraculous ways. Mr. Frank and Ms. Nell were active members of Woodland Park Baptist Church until recent months, where he taught a couple's Sunday School class.
Visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N.
