James "Jim" D. Baird, Sr.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at a 2:00 PM Celebration of Life Service in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel for James "Jim" D. Baird, Sr., 66, who died on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana will conduct the funeral services. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "Here I Am Lord", "Ave Maria", "Amazing Grace", and "When I Get Where I'm Going" for the services.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Carrie Morton Baird; four daughters, Kimberly Anderson, Karine Patterson, Jodie Baird Orgeron, and Angel Begnaud; two sons, James Baird, Jr., and David Baird; eleven grandchildren, Kelsi Anderson, Demmi Anderson, Kirstin Lanerie, Austyn Mestayer, Samuel Coleman, Sebastian Baird, Desmond Baird, Jasmine Baird, Malcolm Orgeron, Asher Orgeron, and Rylee Trahan; and three great grandchildren, Ryleigh Rodrigue, James Rodrigue, and Jaylie Vaughan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Alice Baird; and his sister, Kathy Johnson.

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for 43 years, James "Jim" D. Baird, Sr. retired with the Lafayette Police Department where he worked for 33 years as a Major. He loved to scuba dive, was an avid fisherman, and worked closely on the expansion of the Lafayette Animal Shelter. Jim walked closely with the Lord and attended College where he studied theology. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy as well as the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. James "Jim" D. Baird, Sr., was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

Pallbearers will be James Baird, Jr., David Baird, and Sebastian Baird.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 9:00 AM until time of service.
