John William "Bill" Alexander

LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held at an 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for John William "Bill" Alexander, 89, who passed away on January 8, 2013 at 4:15 am at his residence.

Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Entombment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

J.W. "Bill" Alexander was born on August 20, 1923 in Lake Charles, LA to JW Sr. and Carrie Olsen. Bill graduated from Lake Charles High School and LSU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked in the oil industry from 1949 to 1991. He was a Navy Fighter Pilot in WWII and received the Gold Star. His hobbies included Golf and Hunting.

He is survived by his wife Lea of 64 years; four children, John III (wife Kathy), Mark (Johnnie), Michael (June) and Mary (Mike); ten grandchildren, Mark T. Alexander, Mike, Chris and Chad Reese, Carly, Grace and Kaitlin Alexander, Mollie McAlister, Jennifer McIntire, and Carrie Dugas; four great grandchildren, Emma McIntire, Alexander Dugas, Juliet McAlister, and Yasmeen Reese.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Annie Alexander, Florence Susarge, Earlene Murchison, Alice Hockey, Carol Lee Gray, and Hazel LeBlanc and one brother, Bob Alexaner.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm Wednesday evening. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 am until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Mark Alexander, Jr., Michael Reese, Jr., Chad Reese, Christopher Reese, Michael Reese, Sr., and Kent Fawcett.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers including, Sheneka Johnson, and Agnes Kilchrist as well as the staff at Hospice Compassus.
