Joseph Arabie, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Joseph "Joe" Arabie, Jr., 77, who passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his home in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville.

Reverend Father Gilbert J. Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Musical selections will be performed by vocalist Denise Melancon.

Joseph was born Wednesday, November 22, 1933 in Leroy, LA and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. Joe served in the Abbeville National Guard for nine years. He retired in 1983 from the Lafayette Airport where he worked for Trans Texas Airlines, Texas Intl. and Continental Airlines as a ticket agent for over 22 years. After retirement, Joe was a successful small business owner with several businesses in Acadiana. He owned Joe Arabie Upholstery which he passed on to his daughter Patricia Falcon in 1996, and Professional Saw & Tool Sharpening, passed on to his son Philip in 1998 when Joe truly retired. Joe was an active person who enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. His favorite places were Bryce Canyon and Mountain View, AR. An avid gardener, Joe grew his own grapes from which he made homemade wine and had great success with hydroponic vegetables. He was also a talented woodworker who made bowls and many ornamental items. Joe's favorite wood item to craft was the Dulcimer, which he handcrafted and taught his granddaughters Philecia, Rachel and Hanna to play. He was a proud member of Teche Woodworkers of Acadiana.

Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all he met. He fought a courageous eight-year battle with cancer and will be sadly missed.

Mr. Arabie is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beverly LeBouef, of Lafayette; three children, Cheryl Broussard and her husband, Paul and Philip Arabie and his wife, Paula, all of Lafayette and Patricia Falcon and her husband, Ralph of Youngsville; nine grandchildren, Andrea Mata and her husband, Lance of Friendswood, TX, Chrissy Daigle of Maurice, Shane J. Broussard and his fianc?e, Traci Pratt of Broussard, Rachel Falcon and her fianc?, Brandon Thibodeaux of Youngsville, Philecia and Hanna Arabie and Charles Falcon and his wife, Ashley, all of Lafayette, Chantelle Falcon of Baton Rouge and Jordan Venable of Lake Charles; six great-grandchildren, Hunter and Bailey Mata of Friendswood, TX, Triston Daigle of Maurice, Catlin Pratt of Broussard and Tyler and Bailey Falcon of Lafayette; and sisters Ethel Miller and her husband, Darrell and Earline Miller and her husband, the late Preston Miller, all of Abbeville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Valentine Arabie and the former Melanie Desormeaux, of Abbeville.

Visiting hours will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

A rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Fountain Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Shane Broussard, Jordan Venable, Lawrence LeBouef, Brandon Thibodeaux, Donald Dugas and Cles Courville.

Honorary Bearers are Philip Arabie, Paul Broussard, Ralph Falcon, Lance Mata and Charles Falcon.

The family would like to express special thanks to Joe's family and friends who tirelessly cared for him, especially Ed and Marilyn Borne and Jim and Verline Bernard for the love and meals they provided.
