GUEYDAN - The family and friends of USAF Fighter Pilot Joseph Boatner Hebert are mourning the loss of their loved one who passed away on August 21, 2013 at the age of 82. He was a lifelong resident of Gueydan, LA born to the late Joseph Whitney Hebert and the late Marie LeJeune Hebert on September 7, 1930. Joseph attended college at USL, earning a degree in Geology before enlisting in the military. Joseph Boatner enlisted in the United States Air Force where he has continued to serve his country honorably earning the prestige title of Second Lieutenant and decorated with the National Defense Service Medal. He served as a Fighter Pilot in the Air Defense Command. Joseph was the only Fighter Pilot from the Gueydan area. Following his military service, he returned to college and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He then went on to work for the Dupont Company in Delaware. Joseph enjoyed wood carving, astronomy, and nature.
A mass of Christian burial to honor the life of Joseph Boatner Hebert will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gueydan, LA on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home on Friday, August 23rd from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday at 8:00 AM until the time of his funeral mass. Joseph will be laid to eternal rest in the Gueydan Cemetery where he will be honored with full military rites. Father Jason Vidrine will officiate his services.
Joseph Boatner is survived by his beloved wife of 57 beautiful years, Leona Bertrand Hebert of Gueydan; his two sons, Joseph Brice Hebert of Gueydan and Remy Bertrand Hebert (Beverly Jan) of Greenville, TN; three daughters, Rise Marie Danielson (Retired USAF Col. James T. Danielson) of Kathleen, GA, Renee Ann Hebert of Gueydan, and Andrea Hebert Robinson (Retired USAF Col. John G. Robinson); three brothers, J.Wilsey Hebert of Gueydan, Dallas Hebert of Crowley, and Johnny E. Hebert of Gueydan; and his five grandchildren, Christopher J. Danielson of Kathleen, GA, Andrew L. Danielson also of Kathleen, GA, Joseph W. Morris of Great Lakes Naval Station, IL, Blake A. Hebert of Chicago, IL, and Brice B. Hebert also of Greenville, TN.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Whitney Hebert and Marie LeJeune Hebert; and two of his brothers, Andrus and Paul Hebert.
In lieu of flowers, the Hebert family requests donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, Inc.
