ROBERTS COVE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Roberts Cove for Leonard Jerome "Jack" Habetz, 74, who died Monday, December 3, 2012 at 7:17 a.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Mr. "Jack" was a retired rice and soybean farmer in Roberts Cove and lifetime resident of Crowley, and for the past 24 years served as Construction Superintendent with E. L. Habetz Builders, Inc. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1318, played on K of C baseball team, member of Crowley Jaycees and coached its baseball team, Acadia Parish Farm Bureau Board for 48 years having served as President and a State Board Member, Member and President of Military Officers Association of America, Member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #15. He served his country from Dec. 4, 1961 and discharged Dec. 3, 1963 from the US Army and remained in the US Army Reserves for 36 years.
Celebrant for the Mass of Christian Burial will be Fr. Mikel Polson, con-celebrating will be Fr. Jared Suire and Fr. Paul Broussard. The family requests visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30p.m. A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. by Sr. Justina Baker and 8:30 p.m. by the Holy Name Society of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Leo Mausoleum.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Sylvia Bigelow Habetz; one son, Shawn R. Habetz and his wife Jill of Rayne; three grandchildren, Steven Jody, Jacob Anthony, and Katelyn Elizabeth Habetz all of Rayne; three brothers, Edmund L. Habetz and his wife Cheryl, Allan N. Habetz and his wife Gwen, Kenneth M. Habetz and his wife Penny all of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H. Leo Habetz, Jr. and Mary Leona Cramer Habetz; one brother, Donald B. Habetz and his wife Patricia Istre Habetz.
Pallbearers will be Shawn R. Habetz, Steven J. Habetz, Jacob A. Habetz, Edmund L. Habetz, Allan N. Habetz, Sr., and Kenneth M. Habetz, Sr.
