Patty Luke Hernandez

LAFAYETTE - Patty Luke Hernandez passed away at the River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 7:00 AM, at the age of 61.

Patty is preceded in death by her mother, Patsy Domingue Hernandez; grandparents, L.E. "Meon" Domingue, Cora Breaux Domingue, Solange Guilbeau Hernandez and Avery "Shorty" Hernandez.

Patty is survived by her loving and caring father, Luke Hernandez; her sisters, Jody McConnell and husband John, Cherie H. Nelson and Paul Guidry; three nieces, Katie McConnell, Melissa Alleman and husband Matthew, Jenny Nelson and fiancé Karl, four nephews, Cory Hebert and wife Sandy, Thaddeus Hebert and wife Melanie, Ben McConnell and Michael McConnell; one great niece, Molly Hebert and five great nephews, Holden, Taylor, Finn and Noah Hebert and Ayden Allemand and her Parrain, Floyd J. Domingue and wife Verona, along with many close relatives and friends she made throughout her life.

Patty was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, January 2, 1953. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1971, attended USL (University of LA @ Lafayette) and then headed out to live and work in New Orleans, LA. Patty was employed by the State of Louisiana for 33 years starting at the King Tut Exhibit, Wildlife & Fisheries (Baton Rouge & New Orleans areas) and Medicare/Medicaid.

She enjoyed and was extremely talented in sewing (especially costumes for her friends), oil painting, cross stitch and whatever else she pursued. She truly loved living in New Orleans and was blessed with many wonderful friends and her adopted New Orleans family, Beverly, Jody and Liz Medan. She enjoyed reading and researching the history of Louisiana politics, the city of New Orleans, JFK assassination and of course, her own family ancestry.

Pallbearers will be Cory Hebert, Thaddeus Hebert, Ben McConnell, Michael McConnell, John McConnell and Paul Guidry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Alleman, Karl Castille, Floyd Domingue, Jack Cormier, Glen Stephens, Joey Polito, Joey Domingue, Lee Domingue, Brent Domingue and Milton "Boose" Guilbeau.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 7:00 PM by Reverend Ken Domingue in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Carencro.

Reverend Kenneth Domingue, Pastor of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Leonville, Louisiana, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Martha Williams and Jody Medan. Giftbearers will be Melissa Alleman, Jenny Nelson and Katie McConnell. Charlotte Jagneaux, vocalist, accompanied on the organ by Phyllis Simar, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "How Great Thou Art" and "Be Not Afraid".

The family would like to thank all those that have cared for Patty in the last several years, Dr. Roa and Dr. Lea of the neurology department of Oschner's at New Orleans, Dr. Elizabeth McClain and staff, Lafayette, LA and Hospice of Acadiana. A very special thank you to the staff at Riveroaks Retirement Manor for their care, love and concern for Patty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Patty Luke Hernandez's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
