CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmond Church in Branch for Shirley Matte Arsement, age 77, who passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in St. Edmond Cemetery in Branch. The Rev. Paul Broussard, pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Branch, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Brooke Doucet and Lahti Arsement. Giftbearers will be Tate Miller, Luci Arsement and Lindsey Arsement.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Hail Mary Gentle Woman and Go Rest High on that Mountain.
Mrs. Arsement was a native of Branch and a resident of Carencro since 1963. She retired from the Lafayette Parish School Board with over twenty years of service, having spent most of her time at Carencro Middle School and Carencro Heights.
Survivors include two sons, Keith "Poppa" Arsement and Greg "Spanky" Arsement and his wife, Kerry, of Carencro; one daughter, Tammy Miller and her husband, Derek, of Scott; one brother, Ronald J. Matte and his wife, Janet, of Lafayette; fourteen grandchildren, Brooke Doucet and her husband, Robbie, Cassi Champagne and her husband, J.P., all of Carencro, Greg Arsement, II of Lafayette, Haili Arsement of Carencro, Tyler Miller and Trey Miller, both of Scott, Ali Arsement of Carencro, Lahti Arsement of Denver, CO, Luke Arsement of Carencro, Tucker Miller of Scott, Luci Arsement of Carencro, Tanner Miller of Scott, Lindsey Arsement of Carencro and Tate Miller of Scott; nine great grandchildren, Jase Doucet, Jude Doucet, Mia Champagne, Max Champagne, Ainsley Miller, Abby Miller, Tylon Miller, Traylon Miller and London Miller; two nephews, Ronny Matte and his wife, Monica, of Lafayette and her nephew who was also her godchild, Jamie Matte of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Arsement; her parents, Orest Matte and the former Carrie O'Pry, both natives of Church Point; and one grandson, Brian Keith Arsement, Jr.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Luke Arsement, Greg Arsement, II, Tyler Miller, Tucker Miller, Ronny Matte, Jamie Matte and Haili Arsement. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Credeur, Dale O'Pry, Roger Doucet and Derek Miller.
