Lafayette - A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Methodist Church in Lafayette for Simpson "Sim" Joseph Courville, 64, who died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at his residence in Lafayette.
Rev. Chris Blanchard of Covenant Methodist Church in Lafayette will officiate.
Sim was born Saturday, December 18, 1948 in Rayne but grew up in Eunice. He was a very athletic young boy and man. He always loved the outdoors - running, climbing, hunting, fishing and playing any type of sport. While at Eunice High School, he was a star running back and quarterback. He also held the pole vaulting record for over two decades. During his senior year in 1968, he was awarded a football scholarship to Northwestern where he attended until he joined the Navy in 1969. He spent two years in the Navy, serving one of those years in Vietnam as a Navy diver and achieved the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with bronze stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Sim located to Lake Charles where he met his wife. They married in November of 1971 and lived in Lake Charles until they both finished college at McNeese State University. In 1975 they moved to Lafayette to pursue their careers. He began working for oilfield related companies and eventually worked himself into sales. He was an oilfield salesman for over 20 years.
Sim was a man who loved family and friends. He liked getting together for sports events, especially LSU and Saints games, while cooking a gumbo or BBQ on the grill. His father-in-law introduced him to the sport of golf. Sim enjoyed the game, especially playing with his son, Jeff. In the last ten years he purchased an RV to travel and be outdoors. He and his wife loved to take the RV to the "Farm" in Mississippi and fish; always after the BIG one!
Mr. Courville is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Pamela; daughter, Jessica Courville Galvez and her husband Mike and two grandchildren, Michael and J'olie, all of Howell, New Jersey; son, Jeff Courville and his wife Angelle of Lafayette; sister, Shirley Courville Bennett and her daughter of Lake Charles and her two sons of Virginia; brother, Mitchell Courville and wife Martina and two sons of Eunice, numerous dear nieces, nephews, and, of course, two granddogs, Mister and Bella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Renola Trahan Courville, his sister, Ella Marie Courville Bertrand of Eunice, and his best friend, Tanzy "Pete" Miller of Slidell. Sim was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be observed at Covenant Methodist Church, 300 Martial Ave, Lafayette on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will resume, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
