William F. "Bill" Brodnax

LAFAYETTE - William F. "Bill" Brodnax, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014.

Originally from Camden Arkansas, Bill graduated from Camden High School in 1955. He then moved to Norman, Oklahoma where he graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1960. Bill was one of the first four graduates in the Energy Management Program and was also a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

In 1965 Bill moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where he quickly became an active member in the community. He was involved in various organizations including Krewe of Gabriel, Past President of Oakborne Country Club, a Petroleum Club member, the UL Alumni by choice and the Lafayette Association of Professional Landmen.

An avid lover of golf, football, and bill fishing he donated countless hours to Jr. Golf and was instrumental in creating the UL Golf Classic. Over the years Bill and Rae housed several professional golfers and devoted countless hours promoting the game.

After years of working in the oil field Bill found his true calling in helping others through the Louisiana Extended Care Program at LHC. Bill created the "Spirit Award" which is a recognition program for caregivers throughout Louisiana and LHC's hospitals. This became his true passion.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Rae Robinson Brodnax, children and spouses: Tisha and John Thomas; Lana and Brian Nezat; Margaret and Mike Naumann; Barbie Robinson Castro; Keri Marie Robinson and Brett Schirm; Tommy Robinson; and Kevin and Stephanie Robinson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren whom he adored: Kate and Kelly Thomas; USCG Seaman Christian Nezat, Connor and Collin Nezat; Emma Naumann; Kadie, Sydney and Caleb Castro; Haley Eggers, Joshua and Rainy Schirm; Kole Robinson; and Parker Robinson.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 4pm at Ascension Episcopal Church, 1030 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA. In continuation of his spirit of giving, Bill donated his body to the LSU School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, located at 1375 Jefferson St. Lafayette, LA 70501.
