Virgil Blanchard
ST. MARTINVILLE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Virgil "U.U." Blanchard, age 75, at 11:00 am Wednesday March 2, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Fr. Joe will be the celebrant. Scripture Readers will be Lorie B. Gesaldi and Christine G. Migues. Gift Bearers are Angel Delaunay, Tracy Blanchard and Bernadette Girard. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of St. Martinville on Tuesday from 12:00 noon on until service on Wednesday. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday evening.
A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Blanchard passed away at 5:02 am on Monday February 28, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette.
Virgil was born November 11, 1935 in St. Martin Parish to Anthony and Bernadette Bourque Blanchard. He has had a passion for horses and was a trainer for many years. His family was most important to him and he cherished the time spent with them. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa Granger Blanchard f St. Martinville; son, Virgil "T-U" Blanchard and wife Tracy of Broussard; daughter, Angel Blanchard Delaunay and husband David Jr. of Catahoula; grandchildren, Cole Anthony Blanchard, Sage James Delaunay, and Grant David Delaunay; and brother, Dieu Donne "D. D." Blanchard and wife Sandra of Catahoula; and sisters, Eula Mae B. Dauphine and husband Paul of Parks, and Shirley B. Champagne and husband Whitney of Parks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Bernadette Bourque Blanchard; and brothers, Nollis Blanchard, Raymond Blanchard, and Ronald Blanchard, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Virgil "T-U" Blanchard, Sage Delaunay, Grant Delaunay, David Delaunay, Cole Blanchard, and Kenneth Bertrand.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
