LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Lucy Menard Romero, age 99, who passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at her residence in Carencro.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Keith Landry, Pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Kaleb Meche and Hailey Buller. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Ave Maria, " " Here I Am Lord," "One Bread, One Body," and "I Can Only Imagine."
She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Belinda Meche and her husband Ancy, and Mark Pomier and his wife Katherine; and her brother, Andrew Menard. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and 3 step great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Romero; her daughter, Maudery Pomier; her parents, Lucien and Nita Touchet Menard; three sisters, Cecile Veazey, Stella Menard and Rena Romero; six brothers, Laurence Romero, and Maurice, Eustice, Cleous, Wilson and Oleus Menard; and a great great granddaughter, Shelby Taylor.
Lucy Menard Romero was born on August 29, 1914 in Youngsville, Louisiana. She worked as a cashier in retail for many years before her retirement. Mrs. Romero was an active volunteer for the Salvation Army, loved taking care of others, and also enjoyed working in her garden. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mark Pomier, Kaleb Meche, Blaine Meche, Brandon Meche, Derek Lemaire and Todd Trappey. Honorary pallbearers will be Korbin Lemaire, Tyler Trappey, Hayden Meche and Sofia Lemaire.
A Rosary will be recited by Glenn Faul on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
