LAFAYETTE - Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard for Alicia Anne Gauthier, age 50, who died on Monday, April 14, 2014 in Lafayette.
A private inurnment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Reverend William Ruskoski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Matthew and Emily Gauthier. Giftbearers will be Billy Fontenot, Lauren Gauthier, James Gauthier, Celia Gauthier and Francis Gauthier. Eulogist will be Leslie Fontenot. Jodi Bollich and Glenn Delaune will sing for the service. Musical selections are "On Eagles Wings", "Pie Jesu", "Be Not Afraid", "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "Temporary Home".
Survivors include her parents, Lance and Madeline Champagne Gauthier of St. Martinville; her sister, Leslie Gauthier Fontenot and her husband Bill of Lafayette; two brothers, Lance Gauthier, Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Hessmer, La.. and Stuart Gauthier and his wife Lizette of Nunez, La.; her nieces and nephews, Matthew, Emily, Celia, Francis, Billy, Lauren, James and Ava; and her loving aunt, Cynthia Rose Gauthier; her godparents, Lorene Labbe' and Roy J. Champagne.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Preston Joseph and Palmire Hebert Champagne; her paternal grandparents, Llewellyn A. and Hazel Lavergne Gauthier; and a special cousin, Decca Renee' Champagne.
A native of St. Martinville, Alicia was a graduate of St. Martinville Senior High. She graduated from USL and received her Master's Degree in Education. As an educator, she taught for 28 years at different schools during her career. She began teaching at Breaux Bridge Junior High, and later taught at Central High School in Baton Rouge, Paul Breaux Middle School in Lafayette, and her last 15 years were spent as a History and Biology teacher of gifted and talented students at Lafayette High School. Alicia enjoyed gardening, beading, playing Mexican Train card game with friends, organizing and socializing at family gatherings. and caring for children, especially her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as someone who loved deeply and gave generously of herself.
The family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
